What are the causes of lack of hygiene?
Hygiene is an essential part of human daily life. It can be managed well when there is enough source of sanitation. Well-built sanitation can be indicated by the availability of water as the main factor of cleanliness. Water is an essential part of hygiene because it is needed for frequent hand washing, face washing, and bathing with soap. To be clean, humans need clean water to rinse the dirt on their bodies. Not all places across the globe have this privilege. Some developing countries are unable to ensure good hygiene because they are poor. This means that countries without sanitation will have a lot of people suffering from health problems or diseases. Some parts of Africa have extremely poor sanitation. There are also other countries such as Indonesia, India, Papua New Guinea, and Myanmar. Other locations have limited sources of water. Even for drinking, they have to make every effort. When water for consumption is limited, the water for sanitation is being set aside. Some 2.2 billion people around the world do not have safely managed drinking water services, 4.2 billion people do not have safely managed sanitation services, and 3 billion lack basic handwashing facilities, according to WHO. This is what happens in some countries, mostly the developing ones such as countries in Africa as well as Asia. Some people might try to dig a well, yet the question is: Is the generated water clean and safe enough for sanitation or consumption? Water should be taken from a clean place, far from contamination such as septic tanks, factory sewage, and open defecation (open-area toilets). This untreated wastewater potentially contaminates water supplies and facilitates the spread of diarrhoeal diseases such as cholera. Building latrines and safely managing faecal waste – together with hand washing – is key to keeping children and families healthy.Impacts of hygiene (perspective)
