Every day, you touch bacteria and germs. When you don’t wash your hands, you can get those germs in your body. Diseases occur when disease-causing microorganisms called pathogens, enter your body. Pathogens can be spread by water, air, contact with bodily fluids, food, and indirect transmission by objects like doorknobs and escalator handrails. Your body can fight illnesses, but practising good hygiene prevents getting sick at all.Aside from keeping yourself safe, it keeps others safe too. If you’re sick but meet other people, they can catch the sickness from you. When you practice personal hygiene, you can prevent getting ill and you also prevent others from getting ill. Washing can kill bacteria and germs from your body and keep you clean.Proper hygiene keeps you looking and feeling good and gives you social confidence. Feeling dirty and unclean can trigger discomfort, anxiety and irritability. It can affect how you talk to others and how you feel. Good hygiene can make you feel positive and fresh and indirectly give you the motivation to do things.Proper hygiene is the best way to protect yourself from infectious diseases such as COVID-19, cold, and flu. Washing your hands with soap will remove the bacteria from your hands. Not washing your hands might cause illness and it will leave bacteria on your hands. Having a habit of good personal hygiene will also help you prevent spreading diseases to other people. You will also feel good about yourself.
