Since 2017, I have worked at the EPIC-SEM facility within Northwestern University's NUANCE Center, one of the premier electron microscopy facilities in the United States. As Facility Manager, I oversee facility operations, manage staff, and support a diverse research community of hundreds of users from academia, industry, and national laboratories. I manage five scanning electron microscopes (Below) each offering unique imaging and analytical capabilities that support interdisciplinary research across materials science, engineering, biology, and Earth and planetary sciences.
Over the years, I have trained thousands of students, researchers, and industry users in both foundational and advanced scanning electron microscopy techniques. This experience has allowed me to develop a strong passion for teaching, mentorship, and method development, including creating new microscopy workflows and analytical approaches that enable researchers to answer increasingly complex scientific questions. My role bridges scientific collaboration, instrument development, and education, helping users build the skills and confidence needed to fully leverage state-of-the-art electron microscopy technologies.
