Taeyoung Choi received the Commendation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT at Quantum Korea 2026 in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of quantum science and technology in Korea. The award recognizes his contribution on trapped-ion quantum computing research, including the development of high-fidelity quantum gates and scalable quantum computing systems, as well as his contributions through international collaborations, national research projects, service as an executive member of the Quantum Information Society of Korea, and advisory roles in national quantum technology policy, all of which have helped strengthen Korea's quantum technology ecosystem and global competitiveness. In addition, Professor Choi recently published Quantum Computer Recipe, a science book introducing quantum computing concepts to general readers.

We have successfully obtained initial data on the individual control of multiple ion qubits, a core element of quantum computing. We are currently implementing a technique to selectively illuminate individual qubits using AOD-based optical addressing. Congratulations! ย

Our laboratory participated in the universityโs Institute for Multiscale Matter and Systems (IMMS, Director: Prof. Hoi-Ri Moon), which has been selected as a final recipient of the 2025 National Research Laboratory (NRL 2.0) program, supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Education. IMMS will receive 10 billion KRW per year for 10 years (a total of 100 billion KRW) and aims to lead problem-solving, convergent research based on multiscale matter studies to address national strategic technologies and grand challenges facing humanity. Congratulations! ย

We had the KoreanโSwiss Seminar on Quantum Technologies at ETH Zรผrich, Switzerland. The ambassador for Science and Technology of the Republic of Korea, Shin Sung-Chul, and the Head of the International Relations Division at the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI, Ambassador โJacques Ducrestโ, lead this Quantum seminar to enhance collaboration between Korean and Swiss Quantum researchers. Prof. Choi attended this meeting as one of representative Quantum researchers in Korea.ย

Finally, we see Rabi oscillations and Quantum motional sidebands on single Yb171+ qubit using two photon Raman pulse laser with feedforward lock system integrated. Now, we can do individual qubit, quantum motion control, quantum entanglement in a multi-qubit system.
