Currently I’m a tenured assistant professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Previously I worked at Maastricht University, the Max-Planck-Institut für Informatik, and Universidad de Chile.
My main research areas are algorithmic game theory, algorithmic mechanism design, and approximation algorithms. Over the past years, I focused mostly on flows over time, routing problems and optimal stopping problems. My research is fundamental in nature, but is driven by problems observed in practice that suffer from a lack of coordination or resource limitations.
I organize the Opera Seminar of the Operations Analytics department of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and I am part of the organizational committee of the Dutch Seminar on Optimization. I am a research fellow of the Tinbergen Institute, and member of Beta, Diamant, Gesellschaft für Operations Research and Landelijk Netwerk Mathematische Besliskunde.

2027 07 Conference: ISMP 2027 will take place in Amsterdam! I am the head of the social program committee and I am very excited to organize this prestigious conference with a lot of Dutch colleagues. Reserve 25-30 July 2027 in your calendar!
2026 09 Program committee: I will be a member of the program committee of the Symposium on Algorithmic Game Theory (SAGT), happening September 15-18 in Augsburg, Germany! I look forward to contributing to an amazing event!
2026 08 Workshop: I have been invited to the Chilean–German Workshop on Combinatorial Optimization 2026 in Bremen, happening this August. If it's as good as the workshops I regularly attended in Chile in January, then it's bound to be an amazing and fruitful week!
2026 06 Conference: I will attend the 17th Workshop on Models and Algorithms for Planning and Scheduling Problems (MAPSP), happening in County Durham, UK, from June 21 to June 26, and give a talk about "Capacitated Vehicle Routing with Order Restrictions: Models, Algorithms, and Limits". I'm looking forward to a great and fruitful week!
2026 06 Mini symposium: I organized a mini symposium "Tolls in Flows over Time" together with Lukas Graf and Daniel Schmand, during the SIAM Conference on Optimization, happening in Edinburgh from June 2 to June 5. Join us to learn all about this interesting research field!
2026 04 Symposium: On April 2, the new initiative of the Dutch Game Theory Symposium will take place in Tilburg! I will give a talk about "Bicriteria Nash Flows over Time". Join us for the day for a very interesting event!
2025 11 Article: The paper "On the complexity of capacitated vehicle routing with order restrictions" by Steven Miltenburg, René Sitters and me has been accepted for the SOFSEM 2026 conference! You can find the paper here.
2025 09 Educator's Collective for Active Blended Learning: Since this month, I take part in this group of people. I am the co-leader of the project that will rethink the final projects in our bachelor’s and master’s programmes, which traditionally are written theses. Our goal: to explore (new) formats that truly reward students for their efforts, align with the right learning goals, and feel meaningful to complete. I am excited to take up this opportunity!
