In 2025, we were commissioned to design and build a new shelter for CARAD to enhance their outdoor space. This multifunctional structure was to serve as a shelter for visiting cyclists and mobility scooter users and to provide a flexible outdoor workshop space.
With support from the Community Fund in Wales, we built a 5 m by 2.5 m timber-framed shed using medieval and traditional carpentry skills, which we introduced to a group of 10 volunteers. The group had a range of previous experience; some had worked on other community builds, while others were completely new to the process.
Over three months, working 2 days a week, the volunteers committed over 450 hours to the project, which was completed in late November.
The result is the beautiful structure, which is documented in the images below. Thank you again to the volunteers who laboured through wind, rain and ice to complete it. A fantastic achievement.
