On Tuesday May 19th Vice President Owen Smith publicly informed the Tiffin College Democrats membership that he is transferring out of Tiffin University to head back to his home state and attend Central Michigan University. Owen has been such an integral part of the Tiffin College Democrats during our inaugural year and it will not be the same next year without him. I believe I speak on behalf of all of our members who have had the pleasure of working with Owen when I say that we wish him the best of luck on his future endeavors. Vice President Owen informed the 2025-2026 executive board that he would serve out the remainder of his term ending on May 31st, 2026 but would not begin his second term starting June 1st, 2026.
When the 2026-2027 Tiffin College Democrats convene we will seek a new Vice President to fill the vacancy but until then we will have one less individual on our executive board.
Statement from Owen to the TCD: Hi all, after much consideration I have made the decision to transsfer to Central Michigan University. I am genuinely so excited for the future of TCD and I hope to hear all about how you grow! Thank you all for the opportunity to serve as your Vice President.

The President of the United States must seek congressional approval to conduct acts of war. Because this morning’s attacks were done solely by the Executive Branch with no congressional input or oversight, the Tiffin College Democrats strongly condemns the military actions in and around Venezuela risking dragging us into another war. We demand the United States to take the diplomatic route to combat drug trafficking into the United States and to stop attacking unarmed ships at sea and foreign sovereignty.

Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice are in severe violation of federal law. The Epstein Files Transparency Act passed by a vote of 427 to 1 in the House of Representatives and unanimously in the Senate. At that point President Trump signed it into law giving his DOJ 30 days to release all the Epstein files in a searchable and downloadable format. That deadline has passed and according to the democratic sponsor of H.R.4405, Ro Khanna, only 2.5 GB out of 300 GB were released by the deadline. Less than 1% when all 100% was due to be released. Evan of the first 2.5 GB of files over 550 files were completely redacted. The law only allows for redactions of victims names and identifiable information and the DOJ and FBI has admitted to Congress that they redacted political and influential parties from the files in direct violation of the law. The law states "No record shall be withheld, delayed, or redacted on the basis of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity, including to any government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary."
We must demand our lawmakers to take action against Attorney General Bondi and her DOJ through impeachment, contempt of Congress, criminal prosecution, or other legal means. Congressman Khanna calls on us to urge our lawmakers in DJ and our state's Attorney General to take action to finally get justice for the victims.

A Statement by the Tiffin College Democrats on the Recent Mass Shooting at Brown University
At approximately 4:05 p.m. local time, an armed shooter opened fire in the engineering building at Brown University. Before fleeing the campus, the shooter wounded eleven students. Tragically, two have passed away; one has since been discharged from the hospital; seven are listed as critical but stable; and one remains in critical condition. FBI Director Kash Patel has confirmed that FBI Boston currently has the alleged shooter in custody.
While it is essential to support the families and friends of the victims, as well as the entire Brown University community, this tragedy once again highlights the urgent need to strengthen gun laws in the United States. In 2025 alone, there have been 229 school shootings and a total of 392 mass shootings nationwide. This represents a growing epidemic that demands action.
We must hold our elected officials accountable for their continued inaction, particularly when it is influenced by funding from gun lobby interests. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and we reaffirm our commitment to advocating for the safety and security of all students so that they can learn and thrive within our education system.

As we enter into Winter break today on the 11th of December we wanted to recap what we have been able to do this semester! We started off as an organization after we held elections and election officials were sworn in on November 5th. We still have our pending application with Tiffin University and the College Democrats of Ohio. At the administration's request the CDO ratification vote has been tabled for the month of December meeting. We joined the TU Business Club, VCA, Phis, Zetas, and other organizations to raise well over 500 items for the local Tiffin and Seneca County. The TCD is also prepared for the Spring Semester with eight meetings set, guests joining us, and our two committees we have created and more committees coming. Our new Standing Committee for Student Engagement and Recruitment will be pushing for new members in the TCD and determining what engaging events the students want on campus. We also have the Select Committee for the Spring 2026 Registration Drive to have a voter registration drive for students in the State of Ohio.
From all of us here at the Tiffin College Democrats, we want to say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you and we hope you will join the Seneca County Democratic Party for the Holiday Social tonight!
