In Good Company is a visual media piece inspired by the Red String Theory. The Red String Theory is a belief that an invisible red string connects people together who are destined to meet. This can apply to friends, family members, lovers, peers, and strangers. It can be applied to anyone and everyone in one’s lifetime. I want my project to allow viewers to reflect on how the people around them have shaped them into who they are, despite how much or little they may have interacted with the people around them. I also want my project to encourage viewers to be more mindful of the people who are currently around them. Big or small, everyone leaves an impact.
The Red String theory is an East Asian belief that two people who are destined to meet are connected by an invisible red string. The string can be stretched or tangled, symbolizing how life may pull two people a part, but it will never break. Life will bring the two people together regardless of time, distance, or circumstance. It symbolizes how everyone is connected to each other, and how there is meaning behind the people you meet.
In Good Company visually connects people through vibrant red strings and poetry. As figures are captured on screen, lines of poetry follow their movements while the red threads close the gaps between each individual.
pull us together
remind us,
we are never lost
threads that linger
traces of others,
shaping who we are
echoes of touch,
woven in time,
fragments of meaning
softly connected
