Hello Delegates,
My name is Tina Okutoyi, and along with Jaylin, I’ll be one of your chairs for the FIFA Committee in this year’s THSMUNC. I’m currently a junior here at Towson High, and I started doing Model UN during my sophomore year last year. Over the past three years of my time here at Towson, Model UN has been my favorite club where I’ve grown not only as a public speaker, but as an informed student that has learned about international relations and current relevant topics, and I hope this conference brings you as much joy as Model UN has brought me. Other than Model UN, I’m a dancer, a sprinter in track, a flag football athlete, and the social media liaison for our Black Student Union here at Towson. I’m extremely fortunate to have found Model UN, and I’m extremely excited to see how you all will work together as countries in order to solve the pressing issues that will be presented to you. Jaylin and I have been working hard on this background guide, and we’re overly excited about this year’s conference and to see what creative ideas you have to offer! We hope you have a wonderful time, and of course, some heated debate :)

Dear esteemed delegates,
Welcome to the FIFA World Cup Committee at THSMUNC. My name is Jaylin, and I am honored to serve as one of your chairs alongside Tina for this committee. I am a 10th grade student here at Towson high and this will be my first time serving as a chair and not a delegate for a Model United Nations conference. I joined Model UN at the beginning of my freshman year and came to find it fun! Model UN served as a knowledge outlet for me and as a new experience, traveling for conferences, making new friends, Model UN has been a club to remember even after just a year. Other than Model UN I am also a Model Congress delegate and in my free time I like to game and relax with family! Truth be told however, I’m ecstatic to meet all of you and give this thing a shot for the first time!
You guys will be acting as delegates in the FIFA World Cup Committee. To narrow it down, you guys will be debating and solving the problem of corruption, questions of ethics, and rumors of bribery in the FIFA World Cup. If you haven’t watched the world cup however or don’t quite like soccer, I recommend doing some research into teams that have been suspected of cheating or why people are questioning the ethics of the World Cup. This committee is mainly based on the 2026 world cup but if you find notable examples of corruption in past world cups don't hesitate to use them during debate. In the meantime, if you find yourself with any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to me or to your other chair Tina! Me and Tina worked hard on this background guide so I hope that its content can help you guys to grow as delegates and prepare for THSMUNC! Besides that, I’ll see you guys in October!

The FIFA World Cup is one of if not the most celebrated sporting events in the world, bringing together nations, cultures, and billions of viewers every four years. However, allegations of corruption, bribery, and unethical bidding are sometimes masked by the glory of the event. And concerns over human rights have grown larger during the tournament and slightly damaged the image of FIFA.Throughout this committee, delegates will represent a variety of stakeholder countries in the organization of the FIFA World Cup, this will mean FIFA executives, national football associations, host nations, sponsors, and any figures that influence FIFA and how it operates. You as delegates will be tasked with identifying the corruption and developing realistic solutions that preserve the integrity of the World Cup while also balancing political, economic, and sporting interests as a group.
