NATS - Future Minds Young Women in STEM

NHS 350+ Careers
NHS 350+ are offering a range of online work experience courses in a range of different areas within the NHS. Each course is around 50 mins long and contains tasks and quizzes. Areas covered include: catering, communications & PR, facilities & estates, medicine, paramedicine, physiotherapy, speech & language therapy , radiography, nursing, occupational health & prosthesis and orthotist
Innovate her is an organisation looking to 'get girls ready for the tech industry and the tech industry ready for girls'
They are are offering a free online course on cyber security, what it is and how it may affect your day to day life. This can be accessed at your convenience
University Courses - 'Try before you Buy'!
If you are considering going to university, Springpod have provided a range of free taster sessions in a host of different subjects. You create an account and can access the resources whenever suits you
These short university experience courses take around an hour to complete and include video content and activities for students to work through.
Springpod are an online career and university exploration platform. They connect students to world-leading employers and universities through online programmes. Through their free virtual experiences, young people can gain the experience, knowledge, and skills they need to take their next steps. Upon completion of a programme students will receive a certificate to reference on their CV and/or Personal Statement.

Insight into university
Insight into University (previously known as Headstart) is a comprehensive virtual experience allowing students to explore STEM studies at university and the career opportunities that these subjects lead to. It provides access to information on university and student life, STEM projects and activities set by leading UK universities and global STEM companies, first year undergraduate lectures, live interactive sessions with academics, admissions tutors, employers and current students.
Every year EDT partner up with leading Universities across the UK including Cambridge, Sheffield, Lancaster, Abertay, UCL, Oxford, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Warwick, Kingston, Nottingham, Strathclyde, Plymouth University to give students an insight into STEM courses. Whether you are interested in life sciences, chemistry, biomedical, forensic science, robotics, food science, electronics, engineering, physics, computer science, sustainability, materials science, aerospace, built environment, tech or maths, we have something for you!
Duration: 30 hours to be completed at your own pace.
Dates: This course will run during the period 1st July 2024 – 23rd August 2024 and students can complete the course flexibly within this time.
Cost: Total cost for this programme is £95.
University of SOuthampton: Lifelab summer school
Have you ever thought about becoming a doctor?
LifeLab would like to invite pupils currently in Years 9, 10 and 11 who are interested in finding out more about becoming a doctor to attend their Medicine Summer School. Participants will spend two days gaining experience of what it is like to train and work as a doctor.
During your time with LifeLab participants will have the chance to:
learn how to perform clinical skills such as suturing and practice these on a model
experience anatomy and pathology teaching in the Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences
visit clinical areas to see health professionals at work
talk to medical students about training as a doctor and find out how the application process works
listen to a keynote speaker talking about life in medicine
Dates: 25 and 26 July 2024
Cost: £150 (Bursaries available)

Army Day
On Tuesday 16th January, members of the British Army came in to spend the morning with our students. They gave a briefing on careers in the army and then set the students a range of team tasks, including using a pack of resources to create a useful product that the students then had to pitch to the soldiers. They also got to try on some of the kit!

SETA
SETA stands for Southampton Engineering Training Association Ltd. SETA was established in 1969 and is a registered charity.
The training centre in Millbrook, Southampton has continuously managed apprenticeship programmes and delivers upskilling and engineering training to both apprentices and adults.
They provide accredited, industry-recognised training to an advanced level, delivered by highly experienced staff with vast industry knowledge, and have been playing a key role in developing and transforming workforces for some 50 years.
SETA offer a range of commercial courses for the engineering sector alongside the apprenticeship programmes they deliver
Speakers for schools
Speakers for School's aim is to level the playing field for young people from state schools and colleges and empower them to reach their potential by providing them with life-changing opportunities that they would otherwise struggle to access. Since their launch in 2010, they have become the largest social mobility charity in the UK. They are committed to delivering high-quality and impactful interventions for state-educated students that will transform lives while also using their influence to champion social mobility and improve diversity in the workplace.
NCS (national Citizen Service)
NCS is a flagship government programme that gives 16-year-olds the chance to learn new skills and get involved in their communities.
NCS is where young people can find their strengths and become world-and work-ready. Over 750,000 young people have already done NCS, and in 2024 they are offering a range of experiences — away from home, local community, and online.
Depending on the experience chosen, students will take part in a range of physical activities, cooking, first aid, debating, personal finance and many more.
A 5 day week of activities, accommodation and food is £95. (Bursaries are available in a wide range of situations)
