About the Thompson Little Diverse Libraries
The intention of Thompson’s Diversity & Inclusion Group (DIG) Little Libraries (@ the corners of Everett St and North Union Street along Purcell Rd) is to provide the Thompson Community—children, adults, teachers, and staff—with access to high quality books that represent the diversity of families in our Thompson community and in our wider world. Our focus is on books that represent underrepresented communities (considering race, class, ability, religion, family structure, culture, etc.) in order to:
Enable children and families to more easily see themselves reflected in quality literature
Provide opportunities to learn (and celebrate!) the multitude of ways we are similar to, and different from, each other
Inspire discussions about the communities and systems we are a part of
These books are sourced and collected by DIG members, who rely on book lists and recommendations curated by fantastic organizations like Books for Littles, Wee the People, Social Justice Books and The Conscious Kid.
What you can do:
Borrow books! Please return each book as soon as you’re finished with it so others can enjoy it.

Because they are well loved, our supply of books periodically dwindles so we are continually accepting donations.

The final tally from the (very!) successful #GivingTuesday fundraiser for our DIG Little Libraries is in! We were able to purchase 101 amazing new books from 5 amazing local bookstores that aligned with the fundraising goals: The Million Year Picnic, Cambridge (Black-owned), Frugal Bookstore, Roxbury (Black-owned), Maxima, Arlington (woman-owned), All She Wrote, Somerville (woman-owned) & Book Wonder, Medford (woman-owned). Here is the spreadsheet of itemized books. Enormous gratitude to community member Angie for leading this charge!
Additional thanks goes to community member Tom, who helped fix a gap in one of our Little Libraries that was letting in moisture. We are so thankful for this incredible community! Keep on borrowing and returning these books!
