Advancing Conservation, Collaborating Locally,
Empowering Students
This field course studies the impact of seawall restoration in the PNW. Students design field protocols, collect data, and analyze data in this course.
If you are intersted in getting field research experience working on the Kelp Forest Food Web Project, please review this video and then contact Dr. Pool for more details.
Project #1:
Kelp Forest Food Webs
This Sea Webs Field Co-op research project explores food web dynamics at 6 local field sites. A novel aspect of this project is the long-term accumulation of detailed kelp forest community data across seasons.
Project #2:
Seagrass Biodiversity
Each spring, a team of students conduct field surveys at 5 local seagrass beds with Drs. Pool and Hultgren. They also analyze the data to track changes in biodiversity across time.
Project #3:
Salish Sea Sharks
Each summer, a team of 3 students partner with researchers at OSU to study south sound sharks with Dr. Pool. This project involves hands-on contact with sharks along learning about their physiology and biogeography.
Helen and Clairelynn presented our seagrass pilot project in 2024.
