Abstract
This semester was a rollercoaster, I barely squeaked into all of my classes. Balancing the workload at the beginning of the semester was rough. This class threw me a bit with the different ways of doing things but I soon got the hang of it. Once I figured out the program and came up with my topics I was able to get to work.
Introduction/Background
My name is Tommy, I am a 19 year old attending VVC looking to knock out all of my general education classes so that when I find out what I want to major in, I can focus on that. This is my reflection for my oceanography 101 course.
Goals/Objectives
A goal I had for myself this semester was to get my time management in check and not procrastinate as much as I usually do. I started slow and didn't get my footing for a while as I wasn't exactly sure where to start. Once I had gotten some ideas from classmates and old E-portfolios I was able to do alright, I still didn't quite get things done as soon as I would’ve hoped, but it wasn't terrible.
Methods
The methods I used in this class was showing up to class on time every class period and being present and as much a part of the conversation as I could. Then, at home, researching certain topics to in turn use them for my E-portfolio evidence. I feel that these methods worked well, although I probably could have devoted more time to make them work even better. I generally spent 2-3 hours a week on this class. During the last three weeks I completed three of the four objectives. I had the projects each started but did not get to finishing them until later then I would’ve liked.
Conclusions/Discussion
I feel that I was engaged in class and interested to learn more about the ocean and its systems. I was present every class period. I did not complete every practice work assignment. I can’t say that this class has majorly impacted my life, however I will think about my plastic usage and sunscreen usage when going to the ocean. I would give myself a B in this class. I believe, as evidenced by my portfolio, that I have gained basic knowledge and vocabulary terms. I have learned that the ocean is a system and when one thing falls, a domino effect ensues and it effects all other parts of the ocean and world at large.
