Le local: une catégorie historiographique pour comprendre l'histoire de la mathématisation
Avec mon collègue Juan Carvajalino, nous publierons - en septembre 2024 - un numéro spécial de la revue History of Political Economy dédiée à la perspective historiographique du local appliquée aux problèmes de mathématisation de l'économie.
Nous nous sommes plus particulièrement intéressés à l'idée que le processus de mathématisation de l'économie n'a pas été un phénomène de croissance continu d'une idée, la mathématisation, qui a lentement grandi jusqu'à devenir dominante. Nous montrons qu'il y a eu plusieurs "tournant quantitatif et mathématiques" dans la période 1930-1970. Ces nombreux tournants étaient justifiés par des motivations politiques, sociales et méthodologiques souvent fort différents, voir antithétiques.
Au lieu d'une perspective liée aux individus, aux outils ou aux grandes idées, nous proposons de se concentrer sur des espaces, physiques, instituttionels, sociaux, et notamment sur leur imbriquements. Ce regard permet de raconter une histoire de la mathématisation différente et nouvelle.
Le numéro spécial a vu la participation de Erwin Dekker, Ivan Boldyrev, Yann Giraud, Paul Erickson, Roger Backhouse, Matheus Assaf, et Gianluca Damiani. Avec Juan Carvajalino nous avons proposé un article et une introduction thématique et historiographique ainsi qu'une contribution sur l'histoire de l'économetrie autour de Harold Hotelling et Edwin Bidwell Wilson.
