Thomas L. Vaultonburg is an American poet, haikuist, editor, and independent publisher from Rockford, Illinois. Since 1990, his poetry and haiku have appeared in more than 250 literary journals, magazines, anthologies, and collections worldwide. He is the founder of Zombie Logic Press, co-founder of Wolf Twin Books, and the author of numerous books, including Vanished Roads, Small Songs for Weary Travelers, Moonscape, and Necromancers Don't Read Toe Tags. 

Current Work

Thomas L. Vaultonburg's recent work centers on haiku, nature writing, and what he describes as Prairie Zen—a quiet, attentive approach rooted in the forests, rivers, prairies, changing seasons, and small towns of the American Midwest. Rather than looking for distant destinations, his writing explores the extraordinary found in ordinary places and the practice of paying close attention to the natural world.

His most recent collection, Vanished Roads, combines 104 haiku with eight original illustrations by artist Tré. Together, they founded Wolf Twin Books to create thoughtfully designed books that unite literature and visual art. The collection has been praised for its quiet emotional depth and its movement from grief toward acceptance, hope, and renewal.

Reflecting the project's commitment to the places that inspired it, Vanished Roads also supports conservation through a partnership with Rockford Art Deli, where sales help benefit Wild Roots Nature Center and its mission of connecting people with nature.
