Beginning Jazz Band: Jazz 2

Beginning jazz band is a club that meets two days a week before school. This groups is made up of students who have at least one year of ensemble experience (band, guitar, orchestra, etc) and have a familiarity with basic music concepts. This group aims to teach the fundamentals of jazz both as listeners and performers. This group will teach students the basics of jazz genres, style, and improvisation. This group will perform 3-4 times throughout the school year as well.*An extra rehearsal day may be added as we approach concert dates. 

Advanced Jazz band: Jazz 1

Lead by Mr. Kelly, the Thunder Jazz 1 is one of the top performing ensembles in the THMS band program. Made up of mostly 8th grade students, the Jazz 1 is a class for students that have successfully completed beginning jazz band and are ready for a step up in challenge. Students in this group will perform at least 4 times a year and participate in the Albuquerque Jazz Festival in February. Placement in this group is at the discretion of the band directors.
