Latin America is the second more urbanized region of the world, with 81% of the population living in urban areas, and this proportion is expected to increase to around 88% by 2050. This huge population concentration strains the available resources, stresses the existing infrastructure and tensions the human relations. The diversity and complexity of the interactions between people, commodities and services within the urban areas impose the requirement of a multidisciplinary approach, combining the effort of professionals form such diverse areas of knowledge as social science, geography, engineering, architecture and healthcare, among others.
Thinking Chile Edinburgh invites researchers across the UK to come together and share their perspective on the topic of Sustainable Cities in Latin America, with the aim to foster a discussion that could lead to a better understanding of the complex interactions within urban environments and to develop ideas to bring sustainability to our cities.
