WHAT IS
THINK AGAIN?
WHAT IS
THINK AGAIN?
Think Again is a gathering for Melbourne-based inquiry educators to:
share and connect • discuss pedagogy • rethink education
Inquiry is the antidote to apathy and passive compliance.
All schools say they’re creating lifelong learners.
Teaching children to be inquirers is empowering them to be lifelong learners who understand their own agency.
Inquiry nurtures curiosity and gives children the tools and dispositions to actively work on solving interesting and meaningful problems and questions they encounter. Real life long learning.
Educators must also inquire to consider how best to meet the complex needs of their students.
How does inquiry exist in your practice?
We think about how we do education.
There are lots of ways to teach and learn. Lots of ways school can look. Lots of evidence to consider. And there are children in front of us that show up in lots of different ways.
Teachers must be actively reflective and discerning thinkers in this noisy climate - intentionally interrogating our theories and practices and those of the systems around us.
For all the pedagogical moves we make, we have to think, examine, refine, reflect, and change in accordance with our educational values and the children in front of us. Then, think again.
What is making you think again?
Teachers are experts.
Teachers do highly complex work in highly complex environments.
They draw on the niche expertise of many, questioning and refining practices to meet the needs of their students within the limits and affordances of their circumstances.
Teachers are the ones who listen to other experts, read the research, balance the conflicting priorities. They are the ones who pull it all together and make it actually happen..
Teachers are experts. Teachers need to share their practice with each other.
What expertise do you have to share?
Don't panic - no actual microphone! Listen to the Open Mic, where a few (currently practising) educators share a short 5-10 minute presentation with the group.
The presentation topics might be around inquiry practice, some practical ideas around rethinking education, or another equally tiny topic.
These are designed to give educators a chance to share some of their expertise and for the audience to soak up some new ideas.

The second part of the event is open discussion around a range of provocations - some mild, some spicy, some lemon and herb.
This is designed to give attendees a chance to connect with others on a topic that really interests them and hear ideas and viewpoints of other educators.
Your ticket includes a house wine, beer or softie on arrival.
Food and drinks will be available to purchase at the venue throughout the event, and we welcome you to stick around afterwards and continue connecting and thinking and eating hot chips together.
