NEW TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCES FOR 2024/2025:
We are so excited that you are interested in having your students come and visit one or more of the memorial displays connected with the “They walked these streets…We will remember them” Project. We truly believe that this form of experiential and site-based learning really helps to bring an understanding to how our communities were affected in times of conflict during the World Wars. In addition, students can find connection to soldier’s lives and experiences because they lived on the same streets, attended the same schools, played on the same fields and attended the same churches, and community spaces that they do today. In essence, for those who don’t have any connection to a soldier, they can find a soldier to remember on remembrance day!
Ready-made classroom activities :
I am providing here a couple of activities that you can use before, during or after your visit to the sites to support student learning, either individually or in small groups. Both activities have been provided in ENGLISH and in FRENCH. If you decide to create some new things for your students to engage with the project, I would love to hear from you. As a high school history teacher myself, it is so wonderful to see the evidence of student learning and it is also useful for me to see as a curriculum creator, what other potential tasks could be used to connect students to the content in innovative, engaging and creative ways. Thank you in advance for sharing back some of what you do with your students.
Here are the links to the two documents. I have made them as a forced copy for you to download and use:
Both activites have been provided in ENGLISH and IN FRENCH.

Where are the sites for 2025?
The 13 memorial sites have been set up close to schools so that they are within walking distance. That was intentional, so that you can have your students participate and engage with the project and memorials.
