Rayekka becomes Speaker of the House Unopposed

After winning the most votes by far in the House of Commons general election, Rayekka has secured the unanimous approval of the Members of Parliament and the Speakership for his party.

The time is good for the Progressive Parliament political party. After gaining four seats in Congress and winning every race in the Congressional election, the minor party has solidified it's gains with Rayekka's unanimous win in the Speaker of the House election.

In an advertisement for the party, which contained a fairly misleading claim, Rayekka said, "Progressive Parliament has just had an unprecedented election! In the February/March 2020 General Election, Progressive Parliament has made history by becoming the biggest Political Party in the Senate & the joint-second biggest in the House of Commons!"

In his first statement to the House, Rayekka said:

"Order! Order!

Honourable Members of Parliament. I would like to make a statement to the House.

I'd like to first welcome all new Members of Parliament to this great House and welcome back re-elected Members. We have all been entrusted by the people to carry out our democratic duty of representing our constituents and doing what is right for Thaecia and its citizens.

Although being elected unanimously, this is not a position I take on lightly. From my past experience as the first ever Speaker of the House of Commons and from watching those who took the role after me, that this job is not easy and carries immense responsibility. I aim to maintain the Houses confidence during this entire term by keeping Honourable Members well informed through organisation and enforcement of the Parliament Procedures Act. I aim to achieve efficiency in the House while ensuring every bill is fully scrutinised and the opportunity for every MP to have their say is heard. Above all, I aim to work for the people of Thaecia and you, the Members of Parliament the people have chosen to represent them.

Official business will begin tomorrow morning and shall be conduct on the new House of Commons RMB. I will use the opportunity between now and the opening of business to review Commons procedures, ensure bills on the docket are not forgotten about and set up factbooks to help keep Members informed on Parliamentary Business."

Rayekka has gotten to work on a timetable for the body and it seems realistic to hope that his tenure as Speaker will be a return to activity and efficiency for the chamber.
