Big Parties Fight Back in Snap Election

March 31, 2020

It all seemed to be going wrong for UNI and TPU. After a disastrous legislative election at the start of March and a decline in members, the future was looking grim for some of Thaecia's oldest parties. However, hope was not lost, as both TPU and UNI won a HoC seat in the snap election, effectively turning the political landscape of the house on it's head. This election, was just what the larger parties needed, so let's go into detail about the win in both House terms and Senate terms.

So, for the house, we saw 7 candidates run. It was a diverse candidacy, with nations from multiple parties running but also experienced and non-experienced nations running. This election was able to prove that experience wasn't everything, because it took multiple rounds of counting votes to find the first MP. That MP was Libertyopolis, the sole candidate from the Liberty Party, who was the symbol for Liberty's impressive political rise. Following that, we saw two other nations become elected to the House, TPU member Cerdinia and UNI member Indian Genius. Both nations increased their respective parties' strength in the House, with UNI doubling their number of seats and becoming a solid political player for the remainder of this term. The TPU also benefited from this result, becoming the largest party in the House and taking a stronghold. The results came at the same time as some other good news for the TPU, in which they didn't lose members for the first time since January. However, the most surprising result from this was the unsuccessful candidate of Edan Land. Edan Land, who was one of the MPs who stood down due to changes in party affiliation, was an incumbent candidate who really should've been expecting re-election if it wasn't for some controversial campaign promises.

In the Senate, there was not much doubt over who would win the one seat. One of the founders of Thaecia, Andusre was running against relatively new arrival Sanchee2020. It was a fairly comfortable win for Andusre, who becomes the only TPU member in the Senate, with 70% of votes cast going to him. However, it wasn't too bad for Sanchee2020, who took 18 votes from this in total. This snap election has now shaken the Senate up a bit, with the Independent majority being taken away, and the TPU should be very pleased with the results.

And so, to conclude, the big winners of 31st March was the TPU, who gained more relevance in Thaecian legislature. We also saw the Liberty Party in action for the first time, and all the Thaecians were able to see that Liberty has some strong support from the voting population. And so, with the snap election over, we can now see the MPs and Senator show Thaecia why they were elected.
