I would like to acknowledge the people of the Seneca Nation who are the traditional indigenous caretakers of the land where these photographs were made. The Seneca are also known as the "Keeper of the Western Door" They are the westernmost of the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy, The People of the Long House). In Seneca language, the people are called O-non-dowa-gah,(pronounced: Oh-n'own-dough-wahgah) or "Great Hill People"

I like to draw with a camera.
These surreal photos from Western New York were produced in a twin-lens reflex camera using infrared film and very long exposures. People walk in and out of the frame without appearing in the final image. Water becomes more solid in appearance. The slightest breeze smears the vegetation like a smudge in a drawing. These visual effects allude to transition states of mind, prayer, and healing. The spiritual use of water and forests can be traced through many cultures and is essential to our life"
