Chesnut Grove Bootle

Chesnut Grove in Bootle connects Knowsley Road and Marsh Lane and today is home to Thomas Gray and All Saints Primary schools and St. James Church. However up until the early '70's Chesnut Grove was a busy terrace group of houses with a grocery shop and a few smaller streets streaming off it.  It had been hit by incendiary bombs during the war as it lay at the back of one of the train line which ran freight from the docks. 

After the war, the rebuilding of Liverpool took decades, and was not always made in the best interest of the community. It was decided to demolish the remaining houses even though they were still home to a great community, including my grandmother.  Now very little remains of the original layout of the grove apart from the railway embankment.  

Recently Liverpool artist Paul Curtis has created a mural which covers the whole embankment wall. I started taking pictures each weekend to see how the wall would be transformed.
