Teaching Philosophy & Commitment to Inclusive Education
My passion for education is deeply involved with my experiences as a veterinary student and technical poultry veterinarian in Thailand. Whether studying sessions to help peers survive an anatomy course or advising farmers on disease prevention, I discovered my passionate drive: empowering others to solve complex problems and fostering a lifelong curiosity.
As an educator, my classroom and laboratory environments are built on three pedagogical pillars:
Active, Problem-Based Learning: I believe in "learning by doing." I guide students through hands-on, trial-and-error experiences, challenging them to recognize their mistakes, understand the societal impact of their lab work, and develop independent critical thinking skills.
Intrinsic Motivation: Guided by Self-Determination Theory (SDT), I strive to fulfill students' fundamental needs for autonomy and relatedness. By providing flexible choices and openly sharing my own academic struggles, I foster a sense of belonging that transforms external pressure into genuine, long-lasting curiosity.
Interdisciplinary Integration: I challenge students to synthesize knowledge across disciplines. By drawing analogies between everyday concepts and complex physiological processes, such as using physics and math to explain biological nerve conduction, I help them approach problems from a holistic perspective.
Fostering a Global, Inclusive Classroom: Having worked in diverse environments around the world, from organizing area-wide epidemiology projects in rural Myanmar to advocating for accessible science communication, I view diversity as an essential driver of human growth and scientific innovation. I actively cultivate a safe, inclusive space where students from all backgrounds, including first-generation and marginalized individuals, feel valued. By dedicating time for students to share their varied worldviews and values, we leverage our collective differences to generate better ideas and more accessible scientific interventions.
Future Vision: Ultimately, my goal is to establish a center of excellence for veterinary and undergraduate education that emphasizes clinical-based research and holistic mentorship. By providing inclusive, hands-on experiences, I am committed to igniting intrinsic motivation in my mentees and shaping the next generation of adaptable, interdisciplinary leaders in the veterinary field.
