the resistance and me
be a part of the resistance
The message of the Resistance, born when Trump was elected in 2016, has been to “strengthen the resolve of the Democratic Party and weaken the resolve of the Republican Party.” We did this in 2017 by joining together in protests and marches to resist the Trump agenda. We then moved to electoral politics in 2018, spending less time resisting and more time registering voters and then getting-out-the-vote. The result: the largest Democratic turnout in four decades resulting in a blue wave that flipped 40 seats from red to blue, taking back the House for Democrats and sweeping Nancy Pelosi into the Speakership.
This same movement drove the successful election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and defeated Donald Trump. But if we learned anything over these years, it is that only such strong citizen engagement can prevent the dark forces that underlie Trumpism from filling a void if we go back to sleep. We can all breathe easier that Trump has lost. But Trumpism remains and it is going to require all of our vigilance and activism to move this country forward. Continue to be a part of this movement.
