The Resistance and Me is a memoir of the anti-Trump movement. It began on January 21st, 2017, when women of the world united for one of the largest protest marches in history. Having hoped that the election of the first woman president would spark a new women’s movement, it was instead the defeat of Hillary Clinton by the manifestly unfit Donald Trump that triggered the Women’s March and created the Resistance to the Trump agenda.

Over two years, their organizing helped power the blue wave, propelling turnout in 2018 to the highest for a midterm election in four decades. Without it, the Democrats don’t take back the House, Nancy Pelosi is not Speaker and there would be no check on Trump’s continued abuse of power.

The author, Barbara Weber-Floyd is one of these women. Senior citizen, semi-retired wife and mother, she is typical of the suburban women throughout the country who transformed themselves into activists. But she is also atypical because she is a journalist, a former television reporter and graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. By casting a reporter’s eye on the work they were doing and chronicling it in real time, she puts the reader alongside them as they labored to turn out the vote in their district.

The result is a case study of this unique moment in time, from the 2017 Women’s March to the 2018 midterm election, seen through the lens of one suburban district. The Resistance and Me also imparts valuable lessons for Democrats if they are going to successfully stop the Trump agenda and build a progressive political infrastructure for 2020 and beyond.
