Bulwick is just over 7 miles northwest of Oundle and close to the A43. The church is another that is dedicated to St Nicholas. A medieval road can still be walked in a nearby field.
Within Bulwick churchyard, there are records of a chapel dedicated to St Anne maintained by the Guild of St Anne. Little is known of either.
The chapel and Guild of St Anne received several bequests. Robert Cotton asked his wife to pay 20d a year for three years to the brotherhood of St Anne. W. Zouche, esq. in 1526, left 16s 8d to the chantry priests for burial in St Anne’s chapel and 6s 8d for remembering him in their Bede Roll, which recorded who had paid for masses and other prayers after they had died.
More secular was the gift of George Bradshaw in 1544 of a four-year-old heifer towards the cost of drinks in the parish during Rogation Week. In some places, this was a time for Beating the Bounds and blessing the fields.
