Boughton and the now ruined church of St John the Baptist, just beyond Moulton, is a good twenty-two miles from Raunds. The round trip could be completed by an energetic walking pilgrim in two days, or on horseback in one day if both set off early during the lighter months of the year.
The church is now not far from the Moulton Park industrial area, whereas it was once in fields.
The large triangular area near the church is bounded by roads and was once the site of Boughton Fair. There was a turf-cut labyrinth on this land, the form of which was recorded before it was dug up when soldiers practiced digging trenches in during WW1, the fair having been abolished at this time.
The graveyard is still used for burials.
The well is below the main ruins of the church and rarely runs dry.
Candles and other offerings are often placed there.
