Food for the World (photo essay)
A few thoughts on taste, fashion, nutrition, and my love affair with food.
Created with Adobe Express when I started thinking about blogging again.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Niki studied Biochemistry at the University of the West Indies, worked at the Police Forensic Lab in Kingston, and obtained a Master's in Forensic Chemistry through a British Government scholarship. That scholarship, along with her experience in groups such as Jamaica Musical Theatre Company and the National Chorale, opened the door for a position with British Council Caribbean as Arts & Education Officer. When the Council downsized its local operations Niki was appointed Manager of the British Council in Jamaica.
In 2000, Niki finally accepted an invitation from a Bahá'í acquaintance who kept popping into her life at various embassy events to meet some other Bahá'ís. After a few months of investigation, she became a Bahá'í. In 2007, while on a Bahá'í Pilgrimage in Haifa, Niki met Julian. They were married the following year, and she made South Carolina her home. After a long illness (Alzheimer's disease), Julian passed away in hospice care in May 2023.

Niki has transitioned to life in New York City, where her adult daughter resides. She remarried (big and very pleasant surprise), to a lifelong love from Jamaica, in 2024. She works from home full-time as Registrar and Student Services Specialist for Wilmette Institute (WI), which offers an academic non-degree certificate program through online education in a Bahá'í approach to Social Transformation. Niki started taking WI courses in 2025, and the educational stimulation she received led her to want to restart blogging.
