Who we are:
Savannah Gentry
I’m a Zoological Mycologist (I work with fungal pathogens of wildlife) finishing up my PhD, “Primary vs. Secondary: Defining fungal pathogen physiology and host specificity”. Only within the last five years have I come to know and love fungi and working with others in fungal education. My passion extends to drawing fungi, foraging and identifying crazy-looking mushrooms like the “False Morel”, Gyromitra esculenta, and collaborating with artists and community members in science education regarding local fungal pathogens.
Nora Dunkirk
I am a Mycologist working toward my PhD titled "Fungal Biology in the face of climate change: how nitrogen pollution and invasive species impact fungi". Outside of my work, I am passionate about spreading knowledge about fungi and I was a founding member of the Madison Mycological Society in 2017. I often lead forest forays to teach newcomers how to hunt for fungi in their natural habitats. I am an avid knitter and I enjoy bringing two of my passions together!
Naamon Peyton
I am an undergraduate aspiring mycologist who is interested in all things fungal, with a special interest in fungal bioremediation. I love fungi because of their varied appearances and the rewarding feelings of seeing a mushroom that I have never seen before or that I have only read about. In my free time, I like to go on walks and hikes, always keeping an eye out for any mushrooms that I may find along the way.
