Bringing the campaign to our community.
After making contact with our school library, we organized events during our school lunches for two days. On the first day, across lunches we delivered a presentation about community support as a protective factor for eating disorders. On the second day, we hosted an activity where students wrote small, achievable goals because studies suggest that helps combat low self-esteem.
In total, we impacted 75+ people!
We reached 50+ people!
On day 1, we delivered a presentation on how community support can help mental health, especially as a protective factor for eating disorders. We covered topics including the basics of eating disorders and what community support looks like, including an example scenario. Before presenting, we had our consultant and another expert review our presentation for sensitivity and accuracy.
We explained some types of eating disorders.
The event allowed us to further promote our social media campaign.
Our example scenario taught students what to do if a friend shows signs of an eating disorder.
We advertised in-person, on our social media, and through an email sent to the student body.
We reached 25+ people!
On day 2, we delivered a short presentation about setting goals as well as an activity to write New Year's resolutions to improve self-esteem as low self-esteem is a risk factor for eating disorders. Studies show that setting small, achievable goals (S.M.A.R.T. goals) help combat low self-esteem. We provided members with index cards and aided in creating goals.
Attendees wrote a variety of New Year's resolutions.
We provided craft materials to decorate the cards.
The goal was to convince students to stick to these small goals.
The goals were varied, from mental health to habits.
We reached out to the Eating Recovery Center at https://www.eatingrecoverycenter.com/recovery-centers/austin. They have provided us with resources and flyers to use. We hope to include them in a later podcast about eating recovery as well!
We've been in correspondence with professionals at ERC Austin. They will be guest speakers on our podcast in the following weeks! We also plan on doing further events with the ERC such as volunteering or completing activities to help them reach out to more people.
We are so grateful to the Eating Recovery Center for sending us amazing resources to use. We hope to have more partnerships with them in the weeks to come!
