Sound Healing and Expressive Arts for Stress Reduction in Nature-Based Therapeutic Practices
By Malia Burris | Published in the Made in Millersville Journal
This project explores how sound healing and expressive arts can support emotional regulation and stress reduction in nature-based therapeutic settings. Rooted in social work practice and conducted at Lone Oak Animal-Assisted Therapeutic & Educational Services, the study highlights how non-verbal, sensory-based approaches can create greater safety, accessibility, and connection for clients—especially those navigating trauma or communication barriers.
Drawing from group work, somatic awareness, and clinical reflection, this paper speaks to the value of integrating creative and embodied modalities into mental health care.
