The Masquerade Concert is an annual strings concert for 5th and 6th-grade students. Family and friends gathered in the South County High School auditorium on Wednesday, October 23rd to hear the students' performance. Many students dressed up in Halloween costumes as they played some festive music.
Left: Saron Tesfaye, a fifth-grade student at Laurel Hill, said she joined strings because she thought it would be a fun and exciting experience. She started playing the violin in fourth grade. She said the concert was "exciting and fun."
Mason Nguyen, another fifth-grade student at Laurel Hill, joined strings because his sisters play. He started playing the double bass in fourth grade and agreed that the concert was fun.
Right: Mrs. Johnson is a fifth-grade teacher at Laurel Hill who attended the concert. She said, "The concert was really fun. I loved the Halloween story. I was impressed with the level of talent and presentation so early in the school year. I'm really proud of my strings students."

We recently enhanced our campus by planting three red maple trees. These vibrant additions not only beautify the school grounds but also contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment for students and staff.
Red Maple trees are known for their stunning fall foliage, transforming the landscape into a breathtaking display of red, orange, and yellow hues. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these trees offer numerous environmental benefits. They help improve air quality by absorbing pollutants, reducing stormwater runoff, and providing shade, which can help lower energy costs.
The presence of trees on school grounds has been shown to have a positive impact on students' cognitive function, attention span, and overall well-being. Studies have indicated that exposure to nature can reduce stress, anxiety, and fatigue. By incorporating trees into our school environment, we are moving to foster a more serene and inspiring learning atmosphere.
Thank you to the Laurel Hill PTA, the school's Get2Green committee, SavATree: Lawn Care and Tree Care Service, and Silverbrook Nursery and Landscaping for helping make this possible!
