Call for Applications or Nominations for Professor Kandiah Balasubramanium Gold Medal - 2026
Jaffna Science Association annually awards Professor K. Balasubramanian Gold Medal to outstanding scientist who has contributed to Research Achievement in any scientific field at the National Level to the development of Sri Lanka. This year too (2025/2026), JSA is happy to announce call for application or nomination for Professor K. Balasubramanian gold medal under following criteria.
1. This AWARD is for an Outstanding Research Achievement in any scientific field at the National Level contributing to the development of Sri Lanka.
2. Credit will be given to the Achievements that have already resulted in a positive impact.
3. This prestigious AWARD that comprises of a GOLD MEDAL and A CERTIFICATE will be presented at the Annual Sessions of Jaffna Science Association (JSA).
4. The recipient of the AWARD shall be invited to deliver the “GOLD MEDAL AWARD LECTURE” at the Annual Sessions (February 2022).
5. The recipient of the AWARD can be an individual or a group who involved in the Research calling for AWARD.
6. Applications and nominations shall be made to the General Secretary on the prescribed Form.
7. Nominations are only entertained from the members of JSA, Higher Educational Institutes and Research Institutes.
8. Applications are entertained from any scientist (who has at least postgraduate research degree in the respective scientific field).
9. The AWARD is open to the citizens of Sri Lanka for the research carried out in Sri Lanka.
10. Work previously presented and recognized for any award shall not be eligible for this AWARD.
11. Only those works that have been published in a prestigious international Journal during the last ten years shall be eligible for this AWARD.
12. The following documents must be enclosed with the application / nomination, in English:
a. Five copies of the curriculum vitae
b. Five copies of an outline (not exceeding 2000 words) describing the contribution
c. Five copies of all relevant materials (publications and patents) in support of the work
d. A letter from the Head of Institution certifying that the work has been carried out by the applicant / nominee in that institution
e. A copy of a recent passport size photograph
f. Five copies of an abstract (not exceeding 500 words) of the proposed award lecture duly signed by the applicant or nominee, which will be sent to the referees (at least three) for evaluation and recommendation
13. The decision of the Executive Committee of JSA is final on all matters pertaining to this AWARD.
14. If necessary, the applicant or nominee may be summoned for an interview by the JSA.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of experts appointed by the JSA. The selected awardee will be honored with Gold Medal and a certificate at the Annual Scientific Sessions of JSA in May. Additionally, the award recipient will be invited to deliver the Gold Medal Award Lecture during the Annual Scientific Sessions.
