March Edition 2018

Bridge Repairs

Does anyone remember life before the Ardboyne New Bridge opened a decade ago? You can imagine the road congestion being absolute chaos in Navan South without it.

HOWEVER

Two Bridges are Closing for Repairs.

1. Navan Bridge

The bridge crossing the River Boyne near the heart of the town centre is much older and another vital transport link. March 10th and 11th was a brief taster of what's to come since it's also going to be close for 2 weeks for maintenance repairs over Easter. It's inevitable that this will cause major disruption on the roads but we'll have to put up with it since the maintenance and repairs are required.

We just hope they finish on time!

Bridge closure date is now

10am Monday March to 6am Monday 9th April.

The school holiday fortnight period has been chosen to have the least amount of disruption on road traffic, although Pedestrians will be unaffected and will have access to cross the bridge.

The red route on the map below highlights where the traffic will flow to get around this closure. Add to this the cross Navan traffic and all 4 roads: Kentstown, Metges, Bothar Sion and the Kells Road will be heavily used.

We suspect that Metges Road passed the Boyne, Cois Glasin and Priory will also become more heavily congested at peak times.

Extract from Meath County Council Notice

If the Johnstown roundabout actual got sponsorship recently and the advertisements were up in time then they'd certainly be worth the investment.

For the entire Easter School Holidays we're likely to see huge volumes of traffic throughout the day along Metges Road and Bothar Sion.

It will test our little roundabout to breaking point.

Key advice is to be safe crossing the roads especially children outside playing over the Easter Holidays.

2. Bellinter Bridge

Unfortunate timing but the Bellinter Bridge is also closed for 6 weeks from 12th March to facilitate emergency repairs.

Although further from Johnstown it will affect traffic who normally skip the South of our area.

Traffic Impact

Heavy Traffic is expected along the routes highlighted in Yellow.
