Olha leads her people, a devout and freedom-seeking community, to the remote, rocky island where Konstantina now stands.
A vicious plague or magical blight swept through the nascent settlement. Realizing the disease was too potent and could spread to the mainland, Olha, their leader, makes the terrible decision to seal off the island. She orders the healthy to stay and tend to the sick, while she bars any ship from leaving, sacrificing their lives to save the lives of those on the continent.
Olha is the last survivor to remain untouched by the plague. At the end, she stood upon the highest cliff, where she had watched the last of her people perish. Her tears of despair fell onto the black rock of the cliff, cooling instantly into the precious, jet-black stone, the Black Tears of Olha.
An alliance of the Firebreathers, the Emberbeards, and the Moltenpicks established a small outpost on the island they called Thraindel, now known as Katarina, and begin exploiting a deep and high-quality vein of iron.
The first humans settled deep inside the island's fjord and built a settlement called Katarina in honor of the Sezjan reining monarch, eventually giving the island the same name.
During the Riftforge War, the three clans evacuated their installations on Thraindel and, after carefully hiding them, abandoned the island to the growing human population.

The Winter War occurs on the island of Katarina when a rebel group attempts to overthrow the Archduchess's rule. Hailing from the town of Kseniya, the rebels quickly seized control of the city of Katarina and of the arsenal, but Archduchess Irina escapes to the Winter Palace and gathers a force loyal to her. Her professional soldiers eventually march on Katarina, where the rebels are defeated. Fleeing back to Kseniya, the rebels are besieged and eventually starved into submission. Seven rebel leaders are executed, several dozen are exiled back to Sezja, and the rest of the rebels are granted clemency and a pardon.
The Natavia wars start when King Petro invades Natavia from the south.
The Natavia wars end in a tenous peace settlement.
King Petro dies. Queen Lyuba is appointed Regent.
Queen Lyuba begins defaulting on the substantial war bonds owed to the old noble houses, whose wealth had bankrolled King Petro's final conflicts. Taxes on rural landholdings and commodity exports controlled by the provincial nobility are also raised, further angering the public.
Queen Lyuba orders a significant reduction and restructuring of the border garrisons guarding the Northern borders and the sea fleets protecting the trade routes.
Grand Duke Volkov leads a rebellion against Queen Lyuba and her forces. This rebellion is publicly framed as an intervention to “restore the King’s solvency and protect the borders” from the Queen’s reckless policies. After some bloodshed, the Queen is forced into exile.

A plague, eventually known as the Faceless Fever, sweeps through Sezja and Natavia, claiming countless young lives, including King Stanislas II's infant daughter, Elara.
A short-lived rebellion in Klara focused on land reform and the end of the oppressive taxation system erupts. This rebellion is brutally suppressed, and Olena Kravchenko, who led it, was imprisoned in the Cathedral.
Cardinal Feodore arrived on Katarina with a royal writ, establishing religious law over the island.
Mon, Branna, and Marigold arrive on Katarina. In June, King Stanislas II is the first sovereign of Sezja to visit Katarina. An explosion on the third floor of Sidorov Manor destroys the Marquess' residence.
