Just like all other animals and people, pigs can be a bit stubborn. Here are some tips & tricks to help with those times when your animal is just not feeling cooperative and to make them better for showing in the long-term.
One fool proof method is treats. Whether its clipping or working with your pig they can't seem to say no to a marshmallow or some food. Second, just like dogs, a social pig will calm down from a stressful situation if you pet it. On a day to day basis, a pig that can be kept out of the sun, will have substantially better looking skin if skin conditioner is applied. Further, if the animal cannot be kept out of the sun, be sure to apply SPF 50 or above to keep them from getting painful, ugly burns. Similar to toddlers, pigs thrive on routine. By keeping things routine, the animal can be comfortable in knowing what to expect and thusly be more cooperative. When trying to gain weight and your animal simply won't eat due to heat or another factor, strawberry syrup and canned yams are excellent things to put on top of feed.
