Join us for The Grove's 2025 Open House!
- Core Values -
The Grove Community School is a welcoming public alternative school in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), offering programs from Junior Kindergarten (JK) to Grade 6. Together our student, parents & teachers nurture three core pillars as part of our learning journeys:
Equity, Diversity + Social Justice
The Grove seeks to raise learners’ awareness of social justice and injustice and how to respond.
Environmental Justice
We build a strong connection between environmentalism, sustainability and justice.
Community Activism
We attempt to connect students through tackling local and community issues.
We believe that learning about each other, the land and our connected histories creates a space to become active and tackle the big, complex and problems in our world. Our core values guide our everyday education.
Admission to the Grove Community School is determined by a lottery system that is handled centrally by the TDSB. To enter the lottery, you must apply via a universal online application form for all TDSB Elementary Alternative Schools.
Indigenous Perspectives
Teachers work hard to incorporate Indigenous perspectives across subjects and look to this community for guidance.
Responsive & Inclusive
Lessons adapt to current events and include diversity celebrations like Gender Splendour Week and Peace Week .
Community Collaboration
Parents, caregivers and community members contribute and collaborate on events like Black Heritage Month.
Environmental Focus
We celebrate Earth Day with programming at Dufferin Grove Park & use our community garden as another classroom.
At The Grove, we follow the Ontario curriculum with a unique perspective that reflects our values. We are committed to ongoing learning and evolving as a school community, knowing that there is always room to grow.
Yearlong, with the teachers, administration and community, The Grove offers students and families an opportunity for extremely unique learning activities.
The Grove is located in west-end Toronto, on the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Wendat. You’ll find us at Alexander Muir / Gladstone Avenue Junior and Senior Public School at 108 Gladstone Ave. * Please note that our building is not physically accessible, as most classrooms are located on the third floor.
