The Dying Sailor

Very bluntly, sailing is a sport dominated by old white men. To be a part of this community, I am blessed. There is no feeling like being on the water, No feeling like teaching another human who wouldn't have the opportunity to experience a sail boat, all the things that you know. Then to know, this is a sport where you can always learn more. Each and every day, I am grateful.
Recently, I was paid by Downtown Sailing Center to retrieve my Level 1 Certification at Solomon's Island. I now have my Basic Power boating Certification Basic Keel boat, as well as my Level 1. Again I say, I am truly blessed.

How Did You Get Involved In Sailing?

Sailing is for everyone, or at least it should be for everyone. At least at the Downtown Sailing Center, it is.

I got involved in Sailing honestly by accident. Raised by a grandmother who loved keeping me busy, whether it was dancing, writing, karate, basketball, tutoring, or private lessons to learn how to play a variety of instruments, she always required me to be learning something new. At some point, I became of age where it was legal for me to work in the city of Baltimore through a summer program called Youth Works. Youth Works would employ a large number of teens to work at different locations throughout Baltimore City.
