So long as you are a member of The Global Elite region in NationStates, then yes! For information about how to join in, click here.
Different player nations within the RP typically form factions/alliances that other nations can join. They each have their own specific goals and guidelines. To join a faction, it is best to reach out to the nation(s) in charge of the faction via in-game Telegram and ask to join. Click here to find a list of the current factions and which nation to contact to inquire about joining up.
Yes! While we do not currently have limits on the number of factions allowed to exist at once, it may become necessary to implement those limits in the future depending on total number of factions, players, and overall region size.
It is also good practice to have at least a couple other unique player nations (aside from your own) before founding a faction to show that your faction has interest within the community.
One-nation factions generally aren't going to be effective.

Of course! Many of the battles fought in The Global Elite RP games are not 1v1 battles (although they can be). When a nation declares an attack on you, if it is realistic and reasonable for another nation to be in range to assist you, AND you have that other nation's permission to do so, then you can indicate that they are helping with your defense on your defense declaration (for more information about how to issue a defense declaration, click here and see section "Battle Conduct and Guidelines".
Absolutely! So long as you coordinate with your allies ahead of time and get their permission, they can always assist you so long as it is realistic and reasonable for them to do so.
This is one of the main benefits of being in an alliance/faction, as it makes it much easier to find allies ready to help you, both offensively and defensively.
Generally no, although it can happen in some specific circumstances determined by the Minister and Deputy Minister of RP. Typically, once you launch an offensive operation and the Battle Simulation is run for it, we like to give the nation that has just been attacked the chance to counterattack (if they choose to do so and have the resources available to them).
If the nation you attacked chooses not to counterattack, then yes, you would be permitted to launch another assault.
Generally speaking, we will just remove that item from your Force Report before running the simulation. When possible, we will also reach out to let you know that you used something that was banned. We understand that mistakes happen, so if you use a banned item, we do our best to work with you on resolving that issue together.
Yes! In fact, we actually encourage it! Nations will very often have other RP activities going on within our larger lore world. For example, two nation's leaders may choose to meet for a diplomatic summit, or a small group of nations might meet to discuss a territorial dispute or sign a treaty.
Generally speaking, so long as it doesn't directly contradict the main RP and lore, engaging in side RP is perfectly fine!
We encourage you to post about it in the RMB as well, as this helps to build out the overall Global Elite RP lore! Although some nations do - for certain situations and scenarios - choose to do this using in-game Telegram, especially if both nations are trying to be more covert or trying to plot against another nation/faction.
Yes, although doing this is not advised because just like in the real world, one nation attacking another without realistic provocation would be seen as an overtly aggressive move and cause the attacking nation to be seen as volatile and untrustworthy.
But there is technically nothing in the rules stopping a nation from launching said offensive. When it comes to actions like this, we generally prefer to have community-based RP "consequences". So for example, launching an unprovoked attack on an enemy nation might lead that nation's faction to retaliate through either sanctions, military action, or both.
This one is a bit complicated. We have, in the past, had instances where a nation wanted to do something to another nation(s) that would be blatantly unfair to the other nation(s). For example:
Trying to capture/eliminate a nation's leader without having any form of conflict going on between the two nations.
Trying to claim that secret agents had been embedded in another nation's population for the purposes of taking over that nation.
Trying to claim that nuclear weapons had been placed inside nations with zero notice or warning and was set to detonate.
Generally speaking, actions like these are prohibited as they would violate our fairness rules, given that these actions could potentially have drastic consequences for the other nation.
That said, if you and another nation want to create a scenario like the one described and are both mutually accepting of it ahead of time, you can choose to enact that as a side-RP activity where the opposing nation just pretends through RP like they don't know.
The main exception to all of this is battle declarations. Nations may declare war/launch an attack on another nation without warning (although you can collaborate if you want).
There also may be specific exceptions to this depending on the scenario. For example, if you wish to capture/eliminate an enemy leader in a covert manner, we do have a system for that based mostly on random chance with a very low liklihood of success given it's potentially impactful outcome.
