We š Women Art!!
According to Zippia, 75% of tattoo artists are male while the other 25% are female.Ā
Although female tattoo artists have gained a decent footing in the industry, it continues to be a "boy's club" (Zafera, North Moon Tattoo) that is "male-dominated" and "steeped in old-school culture" (Abby, Abbriella Ink).
With insight from two artists who have been working as artists for some time now, both shop owners and entrepreneurs themselves, I gleamed the important of Ā bringing attention to girl's working their way up in the industry.Ā
We need to put more budding female artists' names on the map!!Ā
For this project I pitched the Demoiselle Ink Convention, looking to provide the opportunity for new and seasoned artists alike to come together and celebrate their talents, all in one space. The goal was to provide networking opportunities, bring in clients, and inspire one another in ink mastery through an all-female tattoo artist convention.
The convention was meant to house female tattoo artists as well as local sellers/creatives in booths throughout the event. It would provide visitors with anything their heart desires from jewelry to artist prints, to tattoos, to live music!Ā
The event information was as follows:

Flash from Wild Card Tattoo (Providence, RI) by Kate Collins
Inside Wild Card Tattoo shop (home to multiple female artists) in Providence, RI.
This solution was a nonprofit enterprise, strictly dedicated to the artists it chose to support. My biggest takeaway was that the world is truly our oyster when looking to solve issues of importance to us. The more important something is, the easier to brainstorm a solution that is driven by passion and that will create success. It can feel daunting to deal with such a broad prompt while simultaneously freeing and creativity-fueled.Ā
