Why I Love This Book: The Color Monster is one of my go-to books for describing feelings with young students. Once you get a peek at the vibrant pop up pages, you'll know exactly why. The book begins with a monster who has all of his feelings mixed up together (his colors are mixed too). The little girl suggests that he can separate each color out and put it in it's own jar. Then, each emotion is beautifully described with it's corresponding color as the monster separates his colors. This book lends itself to wonderful conversations about which emotions we have felt and which pages we can identify with. It also allows me to talk to students about how we can feel many emotions at one time, which can make it difficult to identify what we are feeling when we are upset or "all mixed up".
