Kashi is a black lab that joined us at Shaw in the fall of 2018 . Studies have shown that there are many benefits to having a therapy dog in schools. Additionally, they can help calm fears and relieve anxiety.

Why the name Kashi?
Why the name Kashi?
We had two other dogs named Cocoa Puff and Chex and now we have Kashi and Honey Comb and a cat named Cheerio. We really like cereal in our home, so we wanted to stick with the theme. We had several ideas and suggestions, but then we looked up the name Kashi and found out that it is a Hindi word meaning "shining." Since our school's mascot is the shining star, we thought it was perfect!

Is she trained? Licensed?
Yes! Kashi was mostly trained through a Service Dog training facility and then we finished up her therapy dog training with a licensed private trainer who trained in our home, public places, and at my school. She is now a certified Therapy Dog.
What is she like?
What is she like?
At school, Kashi wears her vest, so she is very calm and waits for directions. When she isn't wearing her work uniform, she is a spunky playful puppy! Her favorite pastimes are chasing tennis balls, chewing on stuffed animals she steals from the kids' beds, jumping on the trampoline, and playing flashlight tag!

She loves to sleep in my office and wait for students to come in who may need a little pick-me-up. She also loves when students come in to read with her. She usually waits for an invitation, but don't surprised if she climbs right up next to you on the couch and lays her head in your lap.
