NAGA CITY, PHILIPPINES — In hopes of improving and further enhancing the reading comprehension of Filipinos and filling the learning gaps for students, the Department of Education (DepEd) implements a reading intervention program called Catch-up Fridays.
With this program, every Friday, the students will spend morning sessions in school reading the materials given to them while the time allotted for the afternoon session will be used for teaching values and focuses on health education.
In this reading intervention project, seminars that involve reading are conducted yet all academic-related tasks must be set aside first.
However, all the activities and performances organized during the Catch-up Fridays shall not graded by their teachers.
As a result, students are not that participative and most likely to be absent on Fridays.
This is in accordance with the DepEd memorandum no. 1 s. 2024.
Campus Journalist asks questions during the press conference about the issues on the reversion of the school calendar held at Naga Central School I on Mar. 22.
