A Filipino is known for their ability to bounce back from the problems that restrain them. This idea has been applied for generations, from the integration of a new framework to the convictions and beliefs a person applies. In a press conference held at Naga Central School I, Chief Education Supervisor of the Curriculum Implementation Division (CDI), Anna Liza F. Abuloc, along with the President of the Parent-Teacher Association of the hosting school, highlighted the importance of Filipino resilience in embracing urgent yet necessary change.

Significant information about the reversion of the school calendar was revealed, along with productive and active clarifications to solidify the understanding of the matter. The order about the said initiative of the Department of Education (DepEd) entails impactful and relevant topics that are discussed and established. As the heart of the decision, it was highlighted that this change is supported by the “TA” of the recent MATATAG Agenda framework, which stands for “Take good care of learners by promoting health, safety, and well-being of students and teachers.” 

COURAGE

With the onslaught of the pandemic, there were downsides that created a crack in the motivation of students as well as anyone else. Due to this, anyone from various institutions, organizations, and corporations has had a hard time bouncing back and bringing about the new normal as soon as they can. This was the underlying inspiration of the agency, as borne out by the primary speaker. They conveyed that there were reasons why the calendar was revised at a later time. It was because they had to cater enough time for analyses in order to formulate a solution.

Anchored on the potential of having the calendar return to the way it was, the parents and teachers also showed their confidence and courage to push through despite uncomfortability or fast-paced steps. They expressed that this is beneficial as the problems involving the heat index or summer months of the year will be adjusted with convenience. Students, teachers, and parents will be able to enjoy their original summer break as well as the comfort of learning in a classroom.

COMPROMISE

This change, however, is also deemed imperfect.  Many have voiced their fair- share of disadvantages and advantages. Just like how teachers were told to double time and adjust to the implementation, and teachers had to compress and abruptly collect money for the end of the school year rites. Such as catch-up Fridays, and many more.

These are indeed dilemmas, as acknowledged by the speakers and concerned stakeholders. However, despite those problems, they believe that courage and compromise will lead to a better tomorrow.
