2018 is the year of the European Cultural Heritage.
Cultural heritage has a universal value for us as individuals, communities and societies. It is important to preserve and pass on to future generations. You may think of heritage as being ‘from the past’ or static, but it actually evolves though our engagement with it. What is more, our heritage has a big role to play in building the future of Europe. That is one reason why we want to reach out to young people in particular during the European Year.
Education is a treasure for our students, their families and the society we live in. The world is changing at a rapid pace, and perhaps traditional teaching methods have not changed for decades at the same pace as technological and methodological advances.
The development of basic and transversal competencies through methods adapted to the new reality of our students is essential to the achievement of our goals.
The project aims to provoke a real change in the way we enjoy, protect and promote cultural heritage, and with the activities we ensure that the pupils, teachers, parents and the public will have the benefit from the project and it will be part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
"The Castles on the Danube - Our Linking Heritage" is a secondary education project in which in two years more than 1500 European students from 6 different schools will learn about the history, architecture and life in the Castles on the Danube , about their importance in the past, present and how to protect them for future generations . Cultural heritage has universal value for us as individuals, communities and societies, and students will understand their commitment to its preservation and its importance for building the future of Europe.
