The Paired Painters Challenge is designed to celebrate more than technical painting skill alone. While judges will certainly consider execution, entrants should view the competition as an opportunity to create a unified artistic vision with their partner.
We will be looking for entries that demonstrate strong collaboration, compelling storytelling, and a clear connection between the two pieces. This may be achieved through shared themes, colour palettes, basing, atmosphere, narrative, or any other creative approach that ties the works together. Whether your entry depicts allies, rivals, tragedy, triumph, or something entirely unique, the most successful submissions will feel intentional, cohesive, and greater than the sum of their individual parts.
Above all, we encourage creativity. There is no single formula for success, and entries will be judged on their overall impact, originality, and ability to realise a shared vision.
Specialising in grimdark miniature painting, Butchers nails is known for creating heavily weathered, atmospheric pieces that prioritise realism and narrative over spectacle. Drawing on oil paints, custom sculpting, and textured finishes, their work captures the brutality and decay of the far future, with a particular passion for the Horus Heresy and the World Eaters Legion. As a judge, they value cohesive storytelling, immersive atmosphere, and the craftsmanship that transforms a miniature into a believable character.
Post Mortem is a display miniature painter drawing inspiration from dark fantasy and the Horus Heresy, he enjoys exploring how colour, weathering, and environment can enhance the narrative of a miniature.
