We wish all the new students a successful and inspiring research journey ahead!
Aug 13, 2025: Somnath's Young Scientist Award!
Somnath has received the International Young Scientist Award in the Physical Chemistry category. This award recognizes scientists under the age of 40 who have demonstrated exceptional exploration and contributions to the development of Physical Chemistry.
July 30, 2025: New Publication from TIFR!
Somnath has published his first work from TIFR as a corresponding author in The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters! In this work, he demonstrates higher-order polaronic–exciton recombination well below the Mott density in 2D Dion–Jacobson perovskites. The process is shown to be driven by strong exciton–phonon coupling and 2D confinement, with recombination occurring via an Auger-like mechanism mediated by sub-picosecond biexciton recombination.
July 15, 2025: TIFR Hyderabad Visit!
Somnath had a wonderful two-day visit to TIFR Hyderabad, where he interacted with colleagues from both Chemistry and Physics. The visit was filled with exciting discussions on several overlapping research interests and potential avenues for collaboration. During the visit, faculty colleagues also gave him a tour of the campus, including the TRISUL building, which houses the impressive Petawatt laser facility.
July 14, 2025: Renovated Office Space!
Exciting update: Somnath’s office just got a makeover! Along with new shelves, a comfy sofa, and a shiny notice board, the space now has a personal electric kettle and a French press. So yes — you’re welcome to drop by for science chats and a good cup of coffee ☕
June 16, 2025: Welcoming Ansh!
We welcome Ansh Bardhan, who has joined the group as a Summer Intern. He is currently pursuing a B.Tech in Materials Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi. Ansh is interested in quantum mechanics and will be exploring coherent wavepacket spectroscopy using model Hamiltonian simulations during his internship.
June 12, 2025: Welcoming Vinay for Project B!
We are happy to announce that Vinay has officially joined the group as a Project B student. His research will focus on the solid-state synthesis of magnetic materials as well as low-dimensional hybrid materials, with an emphasis on investigating their ultrafast electronic and structual dynamics.
June 4, 2025: Vinay's wonderful A2 Presentation!
Vinay did a terrific job presenting his A2 project. His work focused on XUV/X-ray reflectivity at the Fe M₂,₃-edge, where he explored the possibility of ultrafast spin switching in molecular magnetic materials using angle-dependent XUV reflectivity, combined with ligand-field multiplet simulation of X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
May 20, 2025: Course Completion!
Somnath successfully completed teaching a graduate-level course on Advanced Chemical Kinetics and Reaction Dynamics for Ph.D. and I-Ph.D. students. The course covered both the theoretical foundations and experimental approaches to chemical kinetics and ultrafast reaction dynamics. The interactive teaching style and well-structured content received encouraging feedback from students, who found the course highly helpful for their research training.
Mar 31, 2025: Welcoming Vinay for his A2 project!
We are excited to announce that Vinay has started his A2 project on XUV/X-ray reflectivity at the Fe M₂,₃-edge. His research will focus on exploring ultrafast spin switching in molecular magnetic materials using angle-dependent XUV reflectivity measurements, interpreted through a combination of ligand-field multiplet theory and classical electromagnetism.
