You'll be assigned to a barracks room with either one or two roommates. Two of you will have to bunk if there are three to a room. If you're married, you can live off-base, but there will be times you are required to stay on base. I was married and had a place off-base, but I ended up staying on base most of the time and it was much more convenient. If your marriage is solid, I would honestly not move your family over, only to move away six months later, unless you are starting fresh and don't have an established residency, if that makes sense. Spoiler alert, my spouse was so excited to divorce me during TBS.Â
My company was assigned rooms according to alphabet, but I heard in other companies that if there were three to a room, it might be possible to put at least one married person in the room. This is a question for your training officer and Company Gunnery Sergeant, not your SPC. Also, this is a "comfort-based" decision, so proceed wisely, if you know what I mean.
You'll have a fridge and a microwave, no hot plates! The rooms are really designed for two people, so three people have to share furniture for two people (except beds). This includes two dressers, two night stands, two desks, two gear lockers, etc. Pack light!
There is base wifi but it is slow. People got Xfinity for their rooms, or Boingo if they wanted service anywhere. Yep, it's annoying...
