PLOT

This short story is about a man called Montresor that hated another man called Fortunato who was an excellent wine taster. Montresor hated Fortunato because he always made fun of him but his insult was the final blow that provoked his vow revenge. During the story Fortunato gave no insight to the fact that he was plotting to kill him, and he planed to use Fortunato´s knowledge of wine to lure him his death.

One day, during a carnival Montresor lied to Fortunato saying to him that he had a barrel of Amontillado (a very good and expensive Spanish wine) in his house. After this new Fortunato, who was drank, said to him that he wanted to taste and see if it was a real Amontillado. Very quickly, Montresor enticed Fortunato to come to his home to see the barrel of Amontillado that he had acquired.

The house was very large, when they arrived they went into the cellar; an underground passage.

Then, they reached the most remote area of the cellar, they found a smaller crypt that was lined with human bones. Fortunato continued into this crypt with Montresor's turning him into the smaller space. Poor Fortunato was so drunk that he was confused as Montresor chained him to the area. Fortunato was still asking for the Amontillado while Montresor started bulding a wall of bones at the entrance of the small area, Fortunato sobered up quickly. Montresor described the sounds he heard as he built, the jingling of Fortunato's bells and the clanking of the chains.

Once the wall was about half-way up, Fortunato began screaming and Montresor mocked him. Fortunato calmed and said: a very good joke indeed, probably with the last bit of hope. Then Fortunato realized that it was not a game and started to scream. Then there was a long silence.
